CHANDIGARH: A spring festival will be organised at Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore near here in March next year to promote Haryana on the international tourism map and attract foreign and domestic tourists, Haryana Minister of State for Tourism Kiran Choudhry said on Thursday while presiding over a meeting of the Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of 44 tourist resorts of the Tourism Corporation. She said the spring festival would be organised to promote Pinjore as a centre of tourist attraction and to highlight the culture and ancient heritage of the place. She instructed the officials to make all necessary arrangements for hosting the festival. Reviewing the working of various resorts in Haryana, Ms. Choudhry announced the constitution of a committee to review the performance of various DDOs depending upon the turnover of their resorts and the ratio of profits. The committee would institute an award and cash incentive for the DDO of the best performing and maximum profit making resort. The employees with outstanding performance would be duly honoured. She emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the resorts. She instructed the officers to submit monthly reports to her which would disclose information about the performance of their resorts. She would regularly hold such quarterly meetings to review the working and management of the tourist resorts. Regular raids would also be carried out on these resorts to keep a check on any kind of embezzlement of funds or any such discrepancy. Ms. Choudhary announced that another committee would be set up for looking into the necessary changes that were required to be made in the menu. It would also design interesting and innovative menus for different resorts depending upon their location and the clientele. Fresh recruitments would also be made for providing better facilities in these resorts. The newly-appointed Commissioner and Secretary (Tourism) Keshni Anand Arora said that from April to September this year the Corporation had achieved a turnover of around Rs. 86 crores from core and non-core businesses as against the turnover of Rs. 80.46 crore achieved during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of seven per cent. She hoped that the Corporation would be able to achieve a net profit of Rs. 2.5 crores during the current financial year.
