Police to view recording

Jalandhar: Punjab police would screen video recordings of the clash between two Akali factions during a religious function at Kathunangal to book those involved in the incident.

``We are not going to spare any person of any political party and those who indulged in the clash will be booked after screening of the video recordings to be obtained from different news channels,'' Director General of Police S S Virk told reporters here.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann was injured on Wednesday after being roughed up by supporters of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a Sikh congregation in Kathunangal village near Amritsar.

Mr. Virk rejected the charge that the police was a mute spectator during the clash and said it was due to their intervention that the situation was controlled.

``Moreover, in such kind of religious function, police has a limited role to play,'' he said adding now onwards police would take more precautionary measures at such functions to avoid any untoward incident. Asked which Akali faction was at fault, the DGP evaded a direct reply.
