MEETING: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda during a public meeting in Kalayat on Thursday.
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government is making all-out efforts to ensure equitable distribution of canal water in all areas of the State, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Thursday while addressing a ``development'' rally at Kalayat in Kaithal district. He said his regime was constructing the Bhakra Main Line Hansi Butana Multi-purpose canal and the Dadupur-Shahbad-Nalvi canal to ensure equitable distribution of canal water. He assured local Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal that the Government would ensure integral development of the Kalayat area that had been neglected by the previous regimes. Describing the UPA regime at the Centre and his own Government in Haryana as "pro-farmer and pro-poor" Mr. Hooda said several welfare schemes had been implemented in Haryana over past 18 months of his regime "The law and order situation in the State has improved considerably and Haryana is no longer a refuge for criminals. Jobs are being provided only on the basis of merit in the police and other departments. Corruption will not be tolerated at any cost," he asserted. Mr. Hooda announced that an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) would be opened in Kalayat and the present 33-KV power sub-station would be upgraded. Also, Balu would be made a model village. Finance Minister Birender Singh said a survey for making yellow and pink cards would be re-conducted in the State to identify the actual beneficiaries of State funds. He thanked UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for setting up a committee to suggest ways to tackle indebtedness amongst farmers. Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh disclosed that 70 per cent of construction work on the Hansi-Butana canal had been completed.m)
