A report "Shopkeepers protest violence" that appeared in these columns on October 25, from Chikmagalur, said that some shoppers were involved in an altercation with the owner of a textile shop, who lodged a complaint with the police, and that Superintendent of Police Vipul Kumar persuaded him to withdraw the complaint in view of the festival on Tuesday. It also said that C.T. Ravi, MLA, warned Mr. Vipul Kumar that a protest would be organised if the offenders were not arrested. Mr. Vipul Kumar has said that the facts are otherwise Our Chikmagalur Correspondent clarifies: With regard to the first point, police officials persuaded the shopkeeper not to lodge a complaint in view of the festival on Tuesday. And, C.T. Ravi, MLA, who arrived on the scene, held discussions with senior police officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Phanindra Singh and Assistant Superintendent of Police Praveen Pawar, and informed them that a protest would be organised on Tuesday if the culprits were not arrested immediately.
