Councillor abducted, says Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Jayalalithaa on Thursday said a councillor belonging to the party in T. Suppulapuram panchayat union in Theni district had been abducted.

In a statement here, she said Sait had been abducted by some persons led by a local functionary of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The incident occurred while the AIADMK councillor emerged from the office where the swearing-in ceremony was conducted.

The Theni district unit secretary of the AIADMK Thanga Tamizhselvan had lodged a complaint with the police, asking for the councillor's safe return, Ms. Jayalalithaa said. She also reiterated the demand.
