HYDERABAD: BJP national secretary B. Dattatreya has accused the State Government of meting out step-motherly treatment towards Telangana in irrigation and other sectors and challenged Congress leaders to an open debate on the issue. Joining issue with Congress spokesperson N. Tulasi Reddy he said the latter's statement that the PG centre at Kadapa had been upgraded into Vemana University showed the "selfish attitude." Asking why a similar PG Centre at Nizamabad was not upgraded, he questioned whether it was not a fact that only Rs. 5 crores were allotted for Nizamabad PG centre as against Rs. 20 crores for Vemana university. He Telangana region had only Kakatiya Medical College since 1956, while four medical colleges and two dental colleges were established in Rayalaseema. He said there were three universities each for four districts of Rayalaseema and 10 districts of Telangana and asked, "What kind of social justice is this?" He described as jugglery of figures the expenditure mentioned by Mr. Reddy on irrigation projects in Telangana.
