Low-key reception for Manmohan Singh

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived to a low-key reception at Begumpet airport on Thursday morning.

As soon as he landed, Dr. Singh left for the National Police Academy to inspect the passing-out parade of IPS probationers. Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and a few of his Cabinet colleagues and Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy met him before he boarded the car.

The ceremonial reception at the airport was cancelled and his arrival advanced by half-an-hour when his programme was rescheduled late on Wednesday to facilitate his early arrival at the NPA.

Ministers and Congress MPs, MLAs and other leaders, however, had a chance to greet the Prime Minister at the airport just before his departure for New Delhi in the afternoon. He met them at a specially erected shamiana for 10 minutes immediately on his return from Kothakota.
