Final decision on UPSC case on November 3: information panel

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has set November 3 as the date on which it is likely to announce its final decision on a complaint filed by aggrieved candidates of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2006 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

On Wednesday, the candidates — who call themselves Transparency Seekers — filed a fresh appeal with the UPSC and a simultaneous complaint with the CIC as per the Commission's directive.

The CIC issued the directive on October 23 when the UPSC sought more time to complete certain procedures while rejecting the candidates' appeal lying with its appellate authority. It asked them to file a fresh appeal within two days.

On October 16, the CIC called the UPSC for hearing its views in connection with two cases, including that of Transparency Seekers. The UPSC sought time to dispose of the appeals following which the CIC set October 23 as the date for giving a final decision.
