Bangalore: The Government has introduced several information technology initiatives to transform the State into a knowledge capital, said Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda.

He was speaking at the inauguration of an international conference on embedded systems, "embedasia 2006", here on Thursday.

The theme of the conference, which had been organised by the Centre for Embedded Intelligence, was telecom.

Mr. Ramachandra Gowda said that the communication revolution over the past few years was one of the major driving forces of globalisation.

"There are certain risks. Local knowledge needs to be applied to solve these risks," he said.

S.K. Sinha, chairman of Embedasia and associate professor in CEDT, IISc., welcomed the gathering.

He said the conference was organised with an aim at bringing together industry experts, researchers and students to discuss trends of embedded systems in the telecom sector. The conference would help provide business and technical information on embedded systems in the telecom sector. Victor Yodaiken, founder of FSM Labs; Scott Muske, Director (Tools and Publication), ZiLog Inc.; Ramesh Emani, president (Product Engineering Solution), Wipro Technologies Ltd.; and Nalin Kanshal, Director of Embedasia and director, Elpro Energy Dimension Ltd., were present.
