New shipping protocol approved
Diplomatic Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Union Cabinet on Friday gave its approval for signing and ratifying a revised protocol on shipping services between India and Pakistan that will allow lifting of cargo between the countries by third country vessels.
Also, Indian and Pakistani ships would be able to lift cargo destined for third countries. This is expected to enhance tonnage under both flags and result in competitive shipping rates.
The revision figured in the last round of India-Pakistan talks on economic and commercial cooperation held in New Delhi in August 2005.
