HYDERABAD: The second GVK-ITF seniors (veterans) tennis tournament will begin on Saturday with the qualifying rounds scheduled at Fateh Maidan Tennis Complex here. The main draw will be held from Oct. 30. T. Subbarami Reddy, Union Minister of State for Mines, will formally inaugurate the event, while, G.V. Krishna Reddy, chairman of GVK Group of Industries, which is sponsoring the event, will preside. Chengappa told the media here that the event would feature competitions in three age-groups: 45, 55 and 65 years. The total prize money will be Rs. 2 lakhs with the winners getting Rs.5000 and the runner-ups Rs. 3000. Every participant is assured of a cash prize. A record 140 entries have been received.
Akshath hits century
Century by P. Akshath Reddy (111, 18x4, 2x6) helped Bhavan's Junior College `B' record a convincing 121-run win over St. Peter's High School in the knockout phase of the Parle Cup under-17 cricket tournament here.

HCA open selections
Hyderabad Cricket Association will organise an open selection trial for under-17 players at Gymkhana grounds on November 6 from 2.30 pm. The institutions and schools, which have not taken part in the Parle Cup tournament, may send two of their best players for the trials along with certificates in proof of their age.
