Shahid and Abhinav among Ranji probables

KOCHI: Kannur left-arm spinner C.P. Shahid, batsmen N.V. Valeed and V. Abhinav Kumar of Palakkad are among the new faces in the Kerala Ranji Trophy probables list which was released on Friday. The three players are in their early twenties.

"We have gone for only performers," said the Kerala Cricket Association Secretary, T.C. Mathew, at the Tripunithura Palace Oval here on Friday.

But surprisingly, the 26-member list does not include the seasoned left-arm spinner Santosh Karunakaran, who is in fine nick. "Santosh is very good, but very unlucky," said Mr. Mathew about the 31-year-old SBT star.

"He was living under M. Suresh Kumar's shadow for many years, but now he does not figure in our scheme of things."

The list includes seven players who have been performing impressively in the ongoing South Zone under-22 inter-State championship in Hyderabad. The Ranji camp begins at the LNCPE Ground in Thiruvananthapuram on November 1.
