Bankers strike work

Madurai Bureau

TIRUNELVELI: Banking operations in the district was totally paralysed as members of United Forum of Bank Unions struck work and staged demonstration in front of Super Market at Tirunelveli Junction on Friday.

The protestors raised slogans against the Central Government's proposals on merger of banks and outsourcing of banking operations. They also demanded the implementation of comprehensive pension scheme for retired bankers and recruitment of new employees to fill vacancies.

Tuticorin

Bank employees struck work in Tuticorin district also staged a demonstration to press their demands.
