New Delhi: The CBI on Friday arrested Himchal Pradesh's Additional Director General of Police B. S. Thind for allegedly cheating various banks by committing forgery and fraudulently procuring loans to the tune of Rs 3.45 crore. The case against Thind, a 1974 IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, was registered by the CBI in 2004 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and forgery and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Thind was picked up from his residence in Chandigarh by sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Branch and will be produced before court on Saturday, CBI sources said. The case against Thind relates to alleged obtaining of loans worth Rs 3.45 crore against four plots by getting a separate deed registered every time without citing plot numbers at the Shalimar Land project at Himmatgarh (Derabassi). He allegedly took loans for three plots -- numbers 22, 23 and 24 -- as many as 11 times from different banks. For plot number nine, he applied and got loans from four banks, CBI sources said.
He had been sent several summons for appearing
Since the agency had finalised its chargesheet for filing in the court, his custodial interrogation and handwriting samples were required, the sources added. PTI
