`Lucknow Mahotsava' to boost tourism

LUCKNOW: A performance by legendary dancer Birju Maharaj, concerts by playback singers Udit Narayan and Alisha Chenoy and several sports events will be the highlights of the 10-day Lucknow Mahotsava that begins here on November 25.

The festival, being organised by the district administration in association with the State Tourism Department, is aimed at promoting tourism in Uttar Pradesh and to showcase the State's specialities, officials said.

Carrying the central theme of ``heritage and development'' the event will provide entertainment to citizens and boost tourism, Divisional Commissioner R K Mittal said on Friday.

The programmes will begin with a tribute to the late `shehnai' maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan by other artistes.

Pundit Birju Maharaj, Udit Narain, Alisha chenoy, Shanker-Ehsan-Loy would also perform in the Mahotsava, Mr. Mittal said.

The festival will also have several sporting events like ``ekka-tonga'' race, shooting, vintage car rally, horse race, kite flying besides a youth festival, he said. - PTI
