Five held with illicit liquor

NEW DELHI: The North East Delhi police have arrested five persons from different places on charges of bootlegging and claim to have recovered 60 litres of illicit country-made liquor from their possession.

All of them have been booked under the Excise Act.

Man stabbed by son

NEW DELHI: A 70-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by his own son over a monetary dispute in his Okhla village home in South Delhi on Friday. The police arrested the accused, Farukh Sheikh, later in the day from New Friends Colony.

The victim, Haji Ali Sheikh, who owned a furniture shop, apparently did not enjoy a cordial relationship with his son. Since Farukh's embroidery shop was running at a loss, he was reportedly upset. On Friday morning, Farukh allegedly quarrelled with his father over money.

Punters held

NEW DELHI: Three persons have been arrested by the North West Delhi police on charges of running a cricket `satta' racket in Rohini here. The police said one colour television set, two mobile phones and one notebook were recovered from the accused -- Sanjay Gera (29), Sanjay Kumar (29) and Sanjay Singh (31) -- who were taking bets on the West Indies-India match being played in Ahmedabad on October 26.

Following secret information regarding illegal cricket betting taking place at A-37, Vijay Vihar-II, a team led by Inspector Kali Ram Malik of the Special Staff raided the premises and nabbed all three accused from the first floor of the house while they were engaged in betting on the ongoing cricket match between India and West Indies.

The accused have been booked under the Gambling Act.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: The North East Delhi police have arrested a 24-year-old man on the charge of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl from Gokal Puri.

The police said Satish, a resident of Azamgarh, had kidnapped the girl in order to marry her. However, the girl's father lodged a complaint with the police and thereafter a search was launched for the accused, who was nabbed from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The girl was rescued and restored to her parents.

Nabbed for theft

NEW DELHI: The Nand Nagari police have arrested a 42-year-old man on the charge of theft.

The accused, Manohar, a resident of Meet Nagar, was allegedly caught in possession of a stolen electric motor.

Booked for breach of trust

NEW DELHI: The Welcome police of North East Delhi have arrested a resident of Sahibabd on the charge of criminal breach of trust.

The police said Arun (28) had been given 1,500 pants for washing by Irshad, a resident of Kabootar Market, who runs a garment export business. However, Arun took the pants but did not return them after the wash. Irshad then approached the local police who arrested Arun and recovered 300 of the 1,500 pants he had taken.
