WELFARE MEASURES: Home Minister Shivraj Patil inspecting the guard of honour at the 67th Anniversary Parade of the Central Reserve Police Force at Jharoda Kalan on Saturday.
NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Saturday announced life and disability insurance cover of Rs. 10 lakh each to jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Making the announcement at a function here to mark the 67th Raising Day of the force, Mr. Patil said the insurance cover would be in addition to the compensation the jawans would get in case of disability or death while on duty. He said pending housing proposals of the CRPF would be cleared without further delay. He also promised a one-time grant of Rs. 1 crore to the personnel of the CRPF for setting up a cooperative group housing society. The Minister advised the State Governments to provide proper accommodation and workable infrastructure to the jawans when they were on duty in their region. The Centre had approved the use of security-related funds for setting up good quality temporary structures in operational areas, Mr. Patil said. Lauding the role of women personnel of the force, he said their proportion in it should be increased. He expressed the confidence that the all-women contingent of the force going to Liberia on a peacekeeping mission would prove successful. Director-General of the Force J.K. Sinha recalled the success of the Central security force in countering the terrorists and insurgents this year. He said this was made possible with better intelligence gathering and launching of pro-active operations. Mr. Patil reviewed the parade and gave away medals for gallantry.
