NIZAMABAD: The District Level Cultural Festival conducted by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, here on Friday night, was a big draw. Dance, drama, song and music programmes presented by artistes from different cultural troupes enthralled the audience. The performances lasted late into night. In all, 110 artistes from four cultural troupes took part in the festival. The Koya dance performed by Reddy Rajaiah and his team and folk songs rendered by Narsimhulu and his team were highlights. Chandrasekhar enthused with his Carnatic classical vocal solo and P. Vani with her Hindustani vocal solo. R. Mounika stood first in the harmonium. Folk songs and dances presented by the Social Welfare Residential Junior College, Dharmaram won accolades from one and all. Inaugurating the festival M. Rajender, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, said the cultural festivals being organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra were bringing the hidden talents of artistes to light.
Effective media
District Revenue Officer C. Sreeram Reddy felt folk songs and dances were an effective media to convey concepts and sensitise rural masses on various problems and enable them to involve themselves in the developmental activities. NYK district coordinator T.V. Vidya Sagar Rao presided. Among those who graced the programme included M. Satyanarayana, Principal, Gnana Saraswati Government School of Music and Dance, Red Cross district secretary N. Ramchander, Youth Associations Federation State general secretary Tota Rajasekhar and district president B. Narasaiah. Chief guest of the function and MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi gave away prizes to winners. He suggested to the authorities to make arrangements to celebrate the centenary of the district beginning next month in a befitting manner.
