A new world opens up before children

WORDS OF ADVICE: Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur speaking to students after inaugurating the Students Internet World in Bidar on Saturday.

GULBARGA: Students of different schools in the district attended the district-level Internet training programme organised by the district administration and Information Technology Department at the Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering and Appa Institute of Engineering Technology in the city on Saturday.

The `Internet World and IT Mela' was formally inaugurated by Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat C.P. Jaffer, Project Officer of the Internet World and IT Mela Sujindra Avadani, and Vice Principal of the PDA College of Engineering P.J. Sasturkar.

More than 10,000 students drawn from different schools in the district will benefit by the mela. Experts from different colleges will teach students on how to use Internet facility to update their skills at the four-day mela.

Free transportation

The district administration has made arrangements for free transportation of students from their respective villages to the venue of the mela. Food is also being provided free of cost to them. After inaugurating the mela, Mr. Revu Naik said knowledge of computers and use of Internet had become imperative in the changing scenario of education.

Bidar Staff Correspondent writes:

Students from schools in Bidar taluk, accompanied by teachers, reached the Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, the IT mela venue early on Saturday.

Agriculture Minister and district in-charge Bandeppa Kashempur inaugurated the programme. He asked students to use the Internet to read newspapers published across the world.

Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil thanked the GND Engineering College for providing computers and refreshments to children. GNDEC principal B.S. Dhaliwal, District Informatics Officer T. Lingaraj, and Education Department officials were present.

Bijapur Staff Correspondent reports:

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin inaugurated the internet training programme at the SECAB Engineering College here. He said learning of computers was a must today. Those who were ignorant of computer operations were treated as illiterates.

Note of caution

Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat, Rajeev Ranjan, said that parents and teachers should take extra care to see that children accessed only useful websites.

President of the SECAB Association, S.A. Punekar, who presided over the function, offered to keep the computer laboratory in his engineering college open on holidays for public use. He suggested that internet training be given to primary school students also.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction, C.V. Hiremath, and Officer of National Informatics Shivanand Googwad participated.

Over 700 students from different taluks underwent Internet training on Saturday.
