Staff Correspondent
Belgaum: Minister for Horticulture and district incharge Shahikant A. Naik has called upon teachers to shape the personalities of school children into "useful citizens" with high moral order. Addressing a function organised to present "Adarsh Shikshaka" awards here on Saturday, he said teachers played a significant role in not only imparting knowledge and training, but also shaping the character and personalities of students. By virtue of being teachers, they had the moral as well as social responsibility to produce youth with excellence in academics and knowledge areas.
Priority
Stating that State Government had accorded priority to education, he said permission had been accorded to start 716 primary schools, 358 high schools, 135 Pre-University colleges and 14 First Grade colleges in the State. On the occasion, 41 teachers were honoured with Adharsha Shikshaka Award and another 63 retired teachers were felicitated. Zilla panchayat president Fakeerappa Gorbal, Bhimappa Sarikar, MLA, and Deputy Director for Public Instructions B.G. Naik were present. There was total disorder and the situation turned out to be chaotic for a while with teachers fighting for chairs owing to the inadequate arrangements made by the Department of Education. The delay in reaching to the venue of the function by Mr. Naik only added to the discomfiture of the organisers and participants.
