Scattered violence

Clichy-Sous-Bois (France): Marauding youths torched two buses and targeted police and firefighters in scattered violence across France on the first anniversary of the start of nationwide riots, but the Interior Ministry on Saturday said the night had been ``relatively calm.'' Six police officers were lightly injured and 25 persons were arrested, said the Ministry. Police had deployed 4,000 reinforcements on Friday night to brace for a replay of violence in mostly poor, immigrant suburbs a year after the death of two teens that ignited three weeks of riots in 2005. Of the 25 arrests, 21 were in the Paris suburbs, where the greatest violence had been expected. — AP
