Moily panel to submit report on tackling terrorism

Staff Correspondent

It will be handed in next month

  • The commission has already submitted three reports
  • Final report to be submitted in September next year

DHARWAD: M. Veerappa Moily, Chairman of the Second Central Administrative Reforms Commission, has said that a report on alleviating terrorism and social conflicts and measures required for the maintenance of law and order is being prepared and will be submitted to the Union Government before the end of November.

He was speaking after inaugurating the three-day Sixth State-level Sociological Conference organised by the Department of Sociology, Karnatak University, and Karnataka Sociological Society here on Saturday.

Mr. Moily said the commission had already submitted three reports on Right to Information, Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Disaster Management to the Centre.

The Second Administrative Reforms Commission came into existence in August 2005 and would be submitting its final report in September 2007, he said.

Democracy would become successful only when society became strong. For that to happen, the minorities and the oppressed classes should get a better deal so that they could join the mainstream.

The next 15 years were crucial for the future of India. Sociologists should realise it and make efforts to bridge the gaps in society, Mr. Moily said.

Expressing concern over illiteracy, fundamentalism and lack of solidarity, he said they posed a threat to the success of democracy. Sociologists and elected representatives should take note of these hurdles and make efforts to combat them, he said.

Delivering the keynote address, Uttam Bohite, former Vice-Chancellor, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nasik, called on sociologists to initiate the process of forming a value-based society.
