ONGOLE: State Finance Minister K. Rosaiah has directed officials to take stringent action against erring gas dealers and curb black marketing of the cooking gas. He has asked them not to hesitate to cancel the dealerships if necessary. He was responding to the debate on gas supply in the district development review committee meeting held here on Saturday. Martur MLA G. Ravikumar said that gas dealers were taking two months time to supply refills to consumers while gas refills were freely available at Rs. 600 in the black market. District Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi said that one dealership was cancelled at Chirala and action was being taken against dealers at Chimakurthi and Cumbum.
Old-age pension
Mr. Rosaiah also expressed surprise over complaints regarding old-age pensions. Some members brought to his notice that old-age pensions were sanctioned to 60 persons who died in Tangutur. He asked the Collector to inquire into the complaint and suspend the official concerned and also recover the amount from him. In Akaveedu village, pensions were not distributed for three months. Mr. Rosaiah pointed out that Andhra Pradesh was the only State which decided to sanction old age pension to all eligible persons liberally. He stressed the need to ensure that all eligible persons get the pension and more importantly to see that no ineligible person gets it.
Seasonal diseases
Mr. Rosaiah said that the Government declared a three-year war against mosquitoes. He wanted a coordinated effort among all officials and non-officials to create awareness among people about clean surroundings and check seasonal diseases. He said that the Government sanctioned Rs. 38 lakhs to Prakasam district to buy medicines, take up anti-larvae measures, hire vehicles, employ health personnel on contract basis. Efforts were being made to recruit 1089 doctors and 2420 staff nurses, lab technicians to gear up the State to meet the threat of diseases.
