GULBARGA: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh on Saturday disputed the claims of Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya on the proposal to set up a government medical college here and accused the Government of following a vindictive attitude towards pending projects in the district. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Dharam Singh said the statement of Dr. Acharya that there was no proposal for a medical college in Gulbarga was surprising. It contradicted the statement of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy who recently declared that a government medical college would be established here. Mr. Dharam Singh said Dr. Acharya should study the proposals made by the previous government before making such statements. When he was the Chief Minister, a notification was issued for the establishment of government medical colleges in Gulbarga and Karwar. In fact the building plans of the 1000-bed Government Hospital here were changed to accommodate the proposed government medical college, he said. He said the building was redesigned to suit the requirements of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and funds were released to take up construction work. The Ministers had adopted a vindictive approach to projects launched by the previous government. The Congress would not remain silent to the continued neglect of the district. The Government should take steps to speed up the work on government hospital where the proposed medical college would be housed.
