Project to launch 15 FM radio stations

HYDERABAD: A group of city-based engineers in the field of digital cinema technology and allied services like Direct-to-Home services have formed the Andhra Pradesh State DTH-FM Radio and Digital Cinema Federation to embark upon a project to launch 15 FM radio stations across the State.

A one of its kind project that envisages connecting villages with advanced FM radio technology in districts in the Telangana and Rayalaseema regions is under way with members of the Federation pointing out that the `groundwork' to get due permissions from a host of agencies is already under process.

The FM stations are to be linked with each other to network and exchange information between the farmers from 15 districts.

In addition to the popular services ubiquitous with FM channels, the network will be used to share information related to farmers in districts adjoining the State capital.

Information on agriculture, medical emergencies, trade and weather beneficial to farmers would be exchanged between the networks of FM stations, which are slated to come up by next year.

Funding project

The federation, which was formed by engineers belonging to Andhra Pradesh Broadcasting Engineering Society, is funding the project by raising Rs.1 crore from various lending agencies for the electronic infrastructure required for FM channels.

Information

"The information to be broadcasted will be very local to suit the needs of farmers, local traders, merchants and village youth. A lot of groundwork has to be done before such project is grounded. Licenses have to be procured from various agencies to start such a concept. We are in the process of doing these things," said the federation's M.V.K Ramana Uppala.
