HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya, the CPI-affiliated women's organisation, has demanded that the Central Government take steps to ensure the passage of Women's Reservation Bill in the winter session of the Parliament. In tune with a nation-wide call given by the party, the samakhya took up a signature campaign on Saturday seeking the support of the people in pressing the Government to concede this demand. The campaign will be followed by a demonstration in front of the Parliament on November 17. CPI State secretary K. Narayana launched the campaign on Saturday. Expressing concern over the inordinate delay in the passage of the Bill owing to the opposition from a couple of parties, the samakhya said despite including the issue in their election manifesto, the UPA coalition had not initiated any steps in that direction thus far. The samakhya in association with different women's organisations conducted demonstrations in New Delhi from July 24 to August 9, but it failed to yield results. In view of this, it was decided to mount pressure on the Government by mobilising public support from across the nation, samakhya representatives said.
