A corner of peace in Delhi

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Munna Bhai and Circuit might still be waiting for their turn to get roads named after them on "filmi" streets, but here is a chance to "see" those who have actually managed to change the world with a little bit of "Gandhigiri''. Far removed from the glitzy world of celluloid, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) here in the Capital is out to ensure that people get to know about some real life examples of Gandhi followers.

Cashing in on the surging public interest in more non-violent ways of solving problems after the film "Lage Raho Munna Bhai", the IGNCA has marked out a special area of its library here for publications on Culture of Peace.

Bringing alive through words the work and times of larger-than-life legends like Martin Luther King and Daisaku Ikeda, the Buddhist philosopher and Japanese peace proponent, the corner will go a long way in promoting the culture of peace. The "peaceful" corner titled Daisaku Ikeda Corner on Culture of Peace was inaugurated by N. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of the Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, at the IGNCA on Saturday. "The quality of life cannot be measured by material possessions, but by the legacy we leave behind,'' he said in his keynote address. Apart from literature on peace, an exhibition, "Gandhi King Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace'', is also on view. To mark the special occasion, Bharat Soka Gakkai headed by Dr. Ikeda also gifted to the IGNCA library 49 books authored by him. IGNCA officials hope the new corner will become a reference point for all those who believe in peace activism.
