Krishnaswamy of Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Social Worker Dr. Indira Nahar. Presenting the awards, former Governor of Orissa M.M. Rajendran, stressed the need for energy security with emphasis on alternative clean sources of energy, food security and effective measures to defeat terrorism, as vital for national progress. Dr. S. Krishnaswamy, accepting the award, said "Development will be real only if the entire population is taken forward, pulling up people from below the poverty line." Suspected blast case accused held
Tailor Raja alias Sadiq alias Valarntha Raja, son of Abdul Majeeth of Kuniamuthur in Coimbatore, was wanted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the last eight years for the serial blasts on February 14, 1998. Already 166 accused are facing trial. Tailor Raja had been accused of involvement in the sourcing of explosives. The SIT officials confirmed that a suspect had been picked up and was being brought to Coimbatore for questioning. Staff Reporter

They urged the authorities concerned to fill 17,000 odd vacancies in the organisation. D. Devaprakash, president, All India Insurance Employees Association, Tirunelveli division, addressed the employees. About 100 persons took part in the agitation.
Four killed
The victims were identified as T. Veerammal (35) of Perungudi, A. Irulayi (20) of Melur, R. Ponnusamy (54) of Anna Nagar and the conductor, Tilagar. Eight others, including five women, injured in the accident, were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. The bus was going to Madurai from Aruppukottai.
