HYDERABAD : South Central Railway defeated Artillery Centre 57-44 to win the C. Narsi Reddy memorial prize money basketball tournament at Reddy Hostel here on Saturday. The winner trailed 28-29 at the break. On resumption, Nihal (20), Murali (12) and Vinay (10) played well when it mattered most for Railwaymen while for the losers Velayudhan (13) and Ram Singh (10) put up a good show but failed to click as a team. Nihal Yadav of SCR was adjudged `best player' of the event while Velayudhan of Artillery `best shooter.' D.K. Aruna, Gadwal MLA and Ram Mohan Reddy, MLA and son of late Narsi Reddy on whose name the event is being organised, gave away the prizes.
Vamsi, Zeba win titles
Vamsi Krishna and Zeba Ashriya won the cadet boys and girls singles titles respectively in the sixth AWASA State-ranking table tennis tournament at Anand Nagar Welfare Association Academy (Khairtabad) here. Big win for HPS Begumpet
HPS Begumpet recorded a 10-wicket win against Nalanda Junior College in the Parle Cup (under-17) cricket tournament here. The scores: Parle Cup: Nalanda Jr College 71 (Ayaz three for 18, Anurag Haridas three for 13) lost to HPS Begumpet 72 for no loss (Mohit Kumar 55 not out). A-Division (one-day) knock-out: Indian Airlines 56 (Abbu four for 10) lost to Apex 57 for three. Hyder XI 147 for nine (Ather-ul-Haque 41) lost to Postal 148 for nine (Narsing 40 not out).
