THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Cabinet has decided to bring an ordinance to exempt transport vehicles from using speed governors as ordered by the Supreme Court. Briefing presspersons after a Cabinet meeting here on Saturday, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan urged lorry, tanker and bus operators to call off their proposed strike from Sunday over the issue of speed governors. He the President's assent would soon be sought for the ordinance. The Government was resorting to the measure as speed governors had become mandatory only in Kerala through the verdict. The Cabinet, he said, also decided to reconstitute the Jail Review Committee with former High Court judge T. V. Ramakrishnan as chairman. The Committee would have five members. Other members (social workers) would be co-opted later. Besides, the Cabinet decided to repromulgate 15 ordinances, which could not be replaced during the last session of the Assembly. The ordinances were the Kerala Handloom Workers' Welfare Cess Ordinance, the Kerala Ayurveda Health Centres (Issue of Licence and Control) Ordinance, the Arthapalisa, Jenmibhogam and Karathilchilavu (Abolition) Ordinance, the Edavagai Rights Acquisition (Amendment) Ordinance, the Kerala Public Accountants (Amendment) Ordinance, the Kerala Road Safety Authority Ordinance, the Kerala Dairy Farmers' Welfare Fund Ordinance, the Kerala Fishermen's and Allied Workers' Welfare Cess Ordinance, the Kerala Revenue Recovery (Amendment) Ordinance, the Kerala Survey and Boundaries (Amendment) Ordinance, the Kerala State Commission for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes Ordinance, the Kerala Temporary Stay on Eviction Proceedings Ordinance, University Laws (Amendment) amending Ordinance, The Kerala Promotion of Tree Growth in Non-forest Areas (Amendment) Ordinance and the Kerala Sports (Amendment) Ordinance.
