Home Minister presides over meeting to review government programmes

  • DDPI, BEO told to visit schools in the district
  • Officials directed to monitor execution of schemes

BELLARY: Officials of various departments, including education, mines and geology, forests, and executive officers of taluk panchayats had to face the ire of M.P. Prakash, Home Minister and in-charge Minister of the district, for their laxity in discharging duties.

Mr. Prakash, who presided over the quarterly meeting to review the implementation of the various government programmes, held here on Thursday, expressed concern over the district lagging behind in education despite the fact that around Rs. 200 crore had been spent under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. He wanted the Deputy Director of Public Instructions and the Block Education Officers to visit all schools and take steps to improve their functioning.

He took to task executive officers of the taluk panchayats for not monitoring the affairs of gram panchayats and ignoring reports on misuse of funds meant for welfare schemes. He accused them of not ensuring that houses under the Ashraya scheme were allotted to the beneficiaries. He instructed the officials of departments of environment and mines and geology to work together to prevent pollution owing to mining and to take action to keep mining activities under control.

Expressing his disappointment over the working of other departments, he urged the officials concerned to show results to avoid action. He stressed the need for intra-department cooperation to ensure that schemes were implemented properly. He instructed the officials to monitor the implementation of schemes, selection of beneficiaries and submit details of the progress to MLAs and members of the zilla panchayat.

Mr. Prakash asked the district health officer to collect details on vacant posts so that the process of recruitment could start soon.

Durgamma, K.A. Ramalingappa, zilla panchayat president and vice-president respectively, Bhagirathi Marulasiddanagowda, M.S. Somalingappa, Subash Chandra, senior officials in-charge of the district, and Arvind Srivastav, Deputy Commissioner, were among those who attended the meeting.
