Coimbatore: The All India Training Centre for Railway Protection Force (RPF) Kennel hosted an inter-divisional competition for sniffer and tracker dogs. Ten sniffer and tracker dogs attached to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) deployed at Palakkad, Chennai, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchirapalli railway divisions of the Southern Railway took part in the competitions. The Chief Materials Manager of the Signal and Telecom Workshop, Podanur, K.M. Unni, inaugurated the competitions. The prize distribution was presided over by the Divisional Railway Security Commissioner, Jyotikumar Satija. Competitions in tracking were conducted in the morning while contests on sniffing explosives, as well as on rescue & search operations were conducted in the afternoon. A competition that involved the canine sleuths refusing to eat food offered by strangers, stole the hearts of visitors. The competitions on tracking, sniffing of explosives, and search and rescue operations were held by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (RPF), Morris Fernandez and Inspectors of Police (RPF), N. Keshavadas and G. Kannusamy. The All India Training Centre located at Coimbatore had trained 36 sniffer and tracker dogs so far, in two batches.
