Written test postponed

CHENNAI: The written test for recruitment for the posts of Assistant Engineer (Civil) in the Chennai Metrowater Board scheduled to be held on Saturday at Chennai Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam, has been postponed due to heavy rain, a Metrowater release said. The new date will be announced later.

Screening camp

The Chennai Port Trust Hospital conducted a screening and treatment camp for cervical disease on Friday. The camp, to identify and prevent the onset of cervical cancer in the general population, was organised in association with the World Health Organisation. K. Suresh, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, inaugurated it.

Scholarships

Merit-cum-means scholarships worth more than Rs.2 lakh were distributed to 275 students at the PS Higher Secondary School on Saturday. Alumni and philanthropists had contributed towards the corpus fund for the scholarships.

Hospitality course

The Royal Institute of Hotel Management is offering a one-month certificate course in food and beverage services from November 8. Hygiene, etiquette and grooming required of service staff will be covered in the syllabus. The basic qualification for the course will be a pass in X standard or pass or fail in the XII standard. Candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 24. Contact: 99414 28816.

Free yoga class

Month-long free yoga classes will be offered for men and women at the Bala Vidya High School in Vasudevapuram,West Mambalam, by Krishnayogam of the Satyananda Yoga Centre, commencing Sunday. Classes will be held between 5.30 a.m.and 7 a.m. Contact: 94440 01410 or 2474 6974 to register.

Spoken English course

Manara Learning will be commencing its Spoken English course on Wednesday at their new centre in 12, Thiruvalluvar Main Road, Adambakkam. The course is available at both `Foundation' and `Fluency' levels with flexible timings. The institute also offers courses in career skills and call centre training at its T. Rural camp

The social work students of DG Vaishnav College conducted a rural camp in Coimbatore district and released a souvenir about it on Friday. S. Ve. Shekar, MLA, Mylapore constituency, released it and handed over the first copy to Rohini Krishnan, Social Welfare Officer, Stanley Government Hospital.
