HYDERABAD: Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy has demanded that the Government suspend MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju and three senior officials for "their negligent attitude and misleading the Council" regarding clearance of six sports complexes. The other three officials were Additional Commissioner (Planning & Projects) K. Dhananjaya Reddy, Additional Commissioner (Works) K. Harshavardhan and Chief Engineer Dhan Singh. The Mayor at a press conference on Saturday accused the officials of "deliberately withholding information" about a Government Order permitting construction of the sports facilities. This, when the general body meeting of the Council was heatedly debating on the issue for about three hours on October16! In fact, the meeting had to be adjourned abruptly when corporators of all parties urged the Commissioner to seek approval from Government for clearing the projects. To add insult to injury, officials had even prepared a note and sent it to the standing committee to seek the Government's approval for the same project despite it being cleared on September 20 itself! "All the while these officials were aware of the GO being issued and copies were circulated to assistant engineers concerned, but they did not utter a word during the general body meeting and also the standing committee meeting held two days ago," said an angry Mr. Reddy.

Sports complexes were to be constructed at Gowlipura, West Marredpally, Kamalapuri Colony, Hafeezbabanagar, Laxminagar in Saidabad and a swimming pool in LIC Colony near Indira Park at a cost of Rs. 11.9 crores. Since projects above Rs. 50 lakhs had to get Government clearance, the proposal was first raised during the previous general body meeting held on July 22 and accordingly, a GOMS 491 was issued on September 20. It reached the Commissioner's office the same day, the Additional Commissioner's office on September 21 and the CE on September 22. But, when the issue was raised during the Council meeting on October 16, officials kept mum and maintained the position during subsequent standing committee meetings held each week, pointed out the Mayor. "I wish to bring to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's notice the careless attitude of MCH officials. If GOs are being ignored, imagine how they are treating public grievances. Mr. Jaju and his officials have to be held responsible," he said.
