GUNTUR : Praja Natya Mandali will take out a `Bhasha Samskruti Kalayatra' in Guntur district from November 1 to 20 to commemorate 50 years of formation of the first linguistic State - Andhra Pradesh. The kalayatra will touch as many mandal headquarters as possible during the 20-day first phase of the programme, which is named `Maa Telugu Talliki Malle Puvvu Danda', mandali State vice-president K. Santharam told reporters.
Preserving culture
Telangana armed struggle was the foundation for the formation of Andhra Pradesh and this kalayatra was a tribute to 4,000 martyrs who laid down their lives in the struggle, he said. At a time when 133 languages were vanishing worldwide due to lack of at least 30 per cent of people from the communities speaking them, preserving the literary and cultural heritage of Telugu was essential, he observed. A dance drama would be staged at all places, a parody enacted on TV programmes and a documentary, `Telugu Viluvalu', on evolution and growth of the language from before Christ to contemporary phase shown at all places. The second phase of the programme would be from December 25 to January 15.
