KOCHI: The seventh Asia Pacific Marine Biotechnology Conference will begin at the Taj Residency here on November 2. The four-day conference is being organised by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO). It is for the first time that the biannual conference is being held in India, said a communication issued by C.T. Achuthankutty, scientist in-charge of the NIO, Kochi. Plenary lectures and presentations on various topics, highlighting the advances made in marine biotechnology will be held.
200 Indian and 80 foreign delegates
International marine biotechnologists from the Asia-Pacific region, United States of America, Denmark and Australia are expected to attend the conference. The organisers expect 200 Indian participants and 80 foreign delegates to participate in the conference. As many as 300 scientific papers will be presented and a workshop on aquaculture and fisheries biotechnology held. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor, the Cochin University of Science and Technology, will inaugurate the conference at 9.30 a.m. Song Qin, chairman, Asia Pacific Marine Biotechnology Society, will preside over the meeting. The Abstract Volume will be released by Shigetoh Miyachi, Chairman, International Marine Biotechnology Society. An exhibition by Government agencies and private industries dealing with biotechnology will also be held.
