KOZHIKODE: The 17th State Conference of the Union Bank of India Employees' Federation (UBIEF) held here on Sunday has asked the management to take urgent steps to fill the existing vacancies in the bank. If the Union Bank was to move forward with the progress achieved by it so far, adequate staff strength was a pre-requisite, the convention noted. The sub-staff/part-time employees ought to be provided the requisite promotion, and part-time staff must be made permanent, the conference demanded. Another demand made was to reopen the regional office in Kozhikode and start more branches in Malabar in view of the unprecedented increase in business in the region. The Government was also trying to outsource the banking sector on a massive scale. UBIEF State president C.P. Radhakrishnan presided. The employees will strike work on December 14.
