NEW DELHI: To highlight the dismal condition of society amidst the ambiguity of contemporary times, students of the Jamia Theatre Club of Jamia Millia Islamia will enact a play titled "Muawazay" at Ansari Auditorium here on October 31. The play has been written by Bheesham Sahni and directed by Shakeel Ahmad Khan. The cast comprises mostly students who would be performing for the first time. The play begins with the picture of communal riots in a town. "How does one react in such disarray: our administration, our citizens, people of upper strata, our politicians, all these become the subject matter of the play," says media coordinator of JMI Rakshanda Jalil. The play also brings out the corruption that is pervasive at all levels from the government agencies right down to the individual level. Slowly and gradually after many twists and turns, the play reveals how a professional bully or `gunda' takes on the establishment to become a professional politician. With a powerful storyline, the play is a must see for all those who want to see on stage the underbelly of the society which may appear to be doing very well at some levels but continues to suffer from several maladies that simply refuse to go away.
