MIGHTY FALL: A huge tree uprooted in the heavy rain at T. Nagar in Chennai on Saturday.
CHENNAI: Rain on Saturday night claimed at least seven lives in the city and the suburbs. Three persons who were stranded in their car on G. N. Chetty Road were found dead early morning on Sunday. According to the post-mortem report, the death was due to suffocation as it is suspected that carbon monoxide seeped in when the air-conditioner was kept running with the vehicle in water. Police had to forcibly open the car door. The three were identified as L.Balakrishnan (36), Arumugam (19) from Tiruvannamalai and Balachandar (26) of Tirunallar.
Four electrocuted
In Adambakkam, two women died when they came in contact with a live wire that snapped from a lamppost. A Chromepet resident was killed when he turned on a switch standing in water in Mummorthy Nagar. He was removing blocks in stormwater drains. A 55-year-old man from Ariyalur was electrocuted on Saturday when he switched off the light at a hotel in Royapettah where he was employed.
