Al-Badr men paid agents in Kozhikode

Special Correspondent

  • No passport applications were filed in Kozhikode, Mysore
  • They were in touch with Al-Badr headquarters: official

MYSORE: Mysore Police Commissioner Praveen Sood told presspersons on Sunday that Mohammed Fahad and Mohammed Ali Hussain, Al-Badr militants arrested after a shootout in the early hours of Friday, had visited Kozhikode. There, Hussain had paid agents Rs. 20,000 to procure a passport.

A special team that went to Kozhikode informed Mr. Sood that though money was exchanged, no passport application was filed as the agents had demanded an additional Rs. 18,000. This was turned down by the duo, who felt that it would be cheaper to secure a passport in Mysore.

The police had questioned Fatima and Nasir, relatives of Fahad, and passport agents Mohammed Afzal and Rehamatullah though no arrests had been made, Mr. Sood said.

He scotched reports that the two had applied for passports in Mysore, and a police team had visited their residence for verification.

There were reports that the police had visited their residence at Rajiv Nagar three weeks ago and questioned them.

A top police official investigating the case claimed that the special team had evidence that Fahad and Hussain were in touch with the Al-Badr headquarters in Pakistan. "The details of the telephonic conversation are also available and are now in the possession of the police."
