Gunned down

NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of Delhi Police gunned down contract killer Mukesh Kumar Singh in an encounter at Rangpuri in South-West Delhi on Sunday evening. Mukesh was wanted in several heinous cases in Delhi and Bihar.

According to police, the Special Cell sleuths received information that Mukesh was to come to Delhi from neighbouring Gurgaon. They put Mukesh's cellular phone on surveillance to trace its location. It was late in the evening that Mukesh was spotted at Rangpuri near Mahipalpur driving a two-wheeler. When he was asked to surrender, he opened fire at the police team. Police also opened fire, killing Mukesh on the spot. Mukesh, a contract killer, generally used to target those involved in tender business in Bihar and Delhi.

Gang busted

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of Mohammad Jamshed (25) and Shatrughan Paswan (20), North-East Delhi police have busted two-member gang of robbers who used to target railway passengers. According to police, the duo belonging to Bihar used to look out for single passengers at New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations and then rob them at gun-point while ferrying them to different locations in the Capital in their auto-rickshaw. They were nabbed from New Zafrabad while planning their next robbery.

Sex racket busted

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested two couples -- one from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and another from Madhubani in Bihar-- that used to run a prostitution racket from their rented flat at GTB Enclave in East Delhi. After getting the information that a prostitution racket was operating in their area, the Dilshad Garden police first sent a decoy customer to the couples and then conducted a raid nabbing the accused.

Four arrested

NEW DELHI: Four youth have been arrested by the North East Delhi police on the charge of planning to rob Chhat devotees during the festivities. A country-made pistol, one live cartridge and three knives were recovered from their possession. The police said it had received information that some miscreants would assemble at T-point near Pontoon Bridge in Usman Pur to rob Chhat devotees. A trap was laid and five persons were spotted moving suspiciously. While four of them -- Raju Verma, Mohan Lal, Kailash and Jitender -- were nabbed, one of their associates, Guddu, managed to escape in the cover of darkness.
