Venkatesh is missing from October 23

PUDUCHERRY: Police are yet to make a breakthrough in the mysterious death of a school student, whose body was found stuffed in a sack and floating in the Ousteri lake, last week.

The partially decomposed body of Venkatesh (15), who hails from Thilarshpet and a class XI student of the Arul Sastha Higher Secondary School in Reddiyarpalayam, was found on October 26.

He was missing from October 23.

A case of murder was registered immediately at the Villianur police station.

According to the police, around 60 persons have been questioned. But no real clue about the persons behind the murder has been gathered.

The only information gathered during the inquiry, according to the police, was that one of his schoolmates had spotted him at 12 p.m. riding pillion on a bike the day he was found missing from home.

According to the information given by the school student, he was with a person who was not from the school. However, he could not say who the person was, an investigating officer told The Hindu .

"The school authorities have told us that he was not a trouble maker and that there were no major complaints against him," the officer said.

Further information collected by the police revealed that he was an active member of Tamil actor Ajith's fan club, a good cricket player and had represented Puducherry in the under-15 category at the national level.

Cricket connection

Police also probed his cricket connection after they got a lead from the name of the cricket club written on his T-shirt, which he was wearing when his body was found.

But the police said the cricket club, formed recently, was not registered. "We are looking at the case in all angles, including his association with the fan and cricket clubs. Now, we are tracing some phone calls made from his home," he said.
