KOZHIKODE: Journalists K.M. Roy and Deepak Dharmadam have been chosen for awards for journalism instituted by the Kesari weekly. Mr. Roy, a senior journalist and columnist, gets the "Kesari Rashtra Seva Puraskaram" comprising cash prize of Rs.50,000 and citation for his outstanding contribution to journalism. Deepak Dhamadam, a journalist with Amrita TV in Kozhikode, gets the "Raghaveeyam Madhyama Puraskaram" for new generation journalists. This award carries cash prize of Rs.25,000 and citation.
Significance
Announcing the awards here, U.Gopal Mallar, managing trustee, Hindusthan Prakasan Trust, and R.Sanjayan, the former editor of Kesari, said the awards had a special significance for the Kesari weekly since these were being given in the birth centenary year of Madhava Sadasiva Gowalkar, whose thoughts and beliefs acted as the guiding force of the publication. The awardees were chosen by a panel consisting of P.Parameswaran, director, Bharatiya Vichara Kendra, M.A. Krishnan, former editor, Kesari, P.Balakrishnan, deputy editor, Mathrubhumi, and journalist Kumar Chellappan.
