BANGALORE: In compliance with its assertion, the State Government has selected 46 persons, including theatre artiste Arundhathi Nag, educationist Pabhakar Kore, economist K. Puttaswamaiah, film artiste Dwarakish, cricketer Venkatesh Prasad and former minister H.G. Govinda Gowda, and four institutions for the annual Rajyotsava awards in recognition of their contribution to their respective fields. The awards, which gain the historical significance as the State observes the golden jubilee year of its formation for a year from November 1, carry a 20-gm gold medal, a citation, a memento and a shawl. Secretary, Kannada and Culture, Information and Tourism I.M. Vittalamurthy, who announced the awards here on Monday, told presspersons that the Government had selected the award winners on its own and on the basis of over 1,000 recommendations it had received from various quarters. The Government has made special arrangements for the launch of the year-long celebrations of Suvarna Karnataka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on November 1. Both the Rajyotsava and Ekikarana awards would be presented on the occasion. The stage for the event is specially designed reflecting the rich heritage of the State and its achievements in the past 50 years. Special seating arrangements are being made to accommodate over 35,000 spectators.
