The Mayor and the Corporation Commissioner used to receive petitions every Tuesday as people converge in large numbers on the Corporation premises during the weekly grievance day.

As the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of Tirunelveli Corporation were out of station, it was informed that the Commissioner, T. Mohan, would receive the petitions from the public during the grievance day.

After the Corporation Commissioner was held up at Melapalayam due to some other work, he could not return to the Corporation in time to receive petitions from the public.

A group of AIADMK functionaries, who had come to submit a petition to the Commissioner, were waiting for sometime and finally handed over the petition to the statue of late C.N. Annadurai in front of the Corporation.
