TN girls clinch under-19 crown

KOLKATA: Tamil Nadu, comprising V. Anvesha Reddy, Harita Om Prakash and Sruthi Ashok, outplayed Maharashtra, consisting of Shivangi Paranjpe, Shweta Singh and Shaheda Madraswala, 3-0 to clinch the girls' under-19 crown in the junior inter-state squash championship at the Calcutta Racket Club courts here on Tuesday.

In the four-team round-robin league, Tamil Nadu topped with an all-win record. Maharashtra finished second, Tamil Nadu `B' ended third and Bengal was last.

TN and Maharashtra would face off in the other three age-group events on Wednesday, the final day of the championship.

Both TN and Maharashtra under-15 girls have won all their league matches so far and their clash would decide the winner.

The story was similar in the boys' section as well. Maharashtra and TN would clash in both under-19 and under-15 age group finals.

In the senior boys' group, Maharashtra and TN won against Maharashtra `B' and Rajasthan respectively by an identical margin of 3-0.

Earlier, TN topped pool `A', Maharashtra `B' and Rajasthan emerged winner in pool `C' and `D' respectively to enter the semifinals

In the under-15, Maharashtra downed New Delhi 2-1 for a final clash with TN, which blanked Rajasthan 3-0. TN (pool `A'), New Delhi (pool `C') and Rajasthan (pool `D') qualified for the last four knockout stage. — Special Correspondent
