Sensex drops 62 points
MUMBAI:
The Bombay Stock Exchange ended its three-day winning streak on Tuesday with the benchmark index, Sensex, settling below the 13000 milestone in volatile trading despite Reserve Bank's decision to keep interest rates steady and buoyant global cues.
After scaling a new peak of 13075.85 earlier in the trading session, the Sensex fluctuated erratically during the day before closing 62.36 down at 12961.90. The National Stock Exchange's Nifty index also moved down by 25 points to 3744.10.
Notwithstanding strong foreign institutional investment inflows, retail investors took profits at the market's dizzy heights after the Sensex hit a new peak in early trade, while some corporates released a mixed bag of financial results during the session, stock brokers said. PTI
