Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and his cabinet colleagues were among those who paid homage to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her 22nd death anniversary here on Tuesday. Deputy Speaker of Puducherry Assembly A.V. Sreedharan, legislators of the ruling Congress, All India Congress Committee general secretary V. Narayanasamy, Pradesh Congress Committee president P. Shanmugham, Chief Secretary Pradip Mehra, Development Commissioner B.V. Selvaraj and Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar were present. Students of the government-run Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam presented patriotic songs. All those present observed silence for a couple of minutes at the venue. Office bearers of the Pradesh Congress Committee headed by Mr. Shanmugham and freedom fighters, the Chief Minister and legislators, paid homage on the premises of the party office earlier. Former Education Minister and legislator of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress K. Lakshminarayanan and party legislator N. Anandh, trade union leader P. Ayyanarappan and former legislator T. Jayamoorthy were among those who paid homage at the portrait of the former Prime Minister at the PMC party office. PMC general secretary P.K. Devadoss led a team of party volunteers to pay homage at the Raj Bhavan block. Party vice president S.K. Shankar, youth wing leader Pradeesh Irudayaraj and a host of functionaries of the party were among those who recalled the services of Mrs. Gandhi for the upliftment of the poorer sections during her tenure as Prime Minister.
