Puducherry: The Administration here has intensified steps to set up the Rajiv Gandhi Knowledge Centre to provide fresh orientation to youth to help them face challenges posed by globalisation and rapid develpoment, said Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan. In an informal chat with The Hindu here on Tuesday, he said their aim was to make students proficient in handling computers from standard IV. He said technically qualified manpower was key in industrial development. Along with promoting hi-tech industrial activities, qualified manpower from within the Union Territory should be available, he said. The proposed centre would provide information to the youth according to their choice of career. Course materials and other requirements would be available through experts. He said skills in the English language should be developed soon for youth to fit into the competitive world. Mr. Shahjahan also said a land bank had been set up to provide infrastructure facilities for private companies interested in starting industries here. A 220-acre land had been identified for this purpose, he added.
