Death anniversary of R. Shankar

KOLLAM: The 34th death anniversary of the former Chief Minister and SNDP Yogam general secretary R. Shankar will be observed here on November 7. The Sree Narayana Trust Medical Mission is organising functions to observe the anniversary. At 6 p.m. on that day, a commemoration function will be held at the Shankar's Hospital complex. The function to be presided over by Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan will be inaugurated by Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan. — Staff Reporter

Jubilee celebrations

PATHANAMTHITTA: The district-level celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the State will begin with a rally in the town on Wednesday. Collector Ashok Kumar Singh said that the rally would be held from the Collectorate junction to the Aban Arcade junction on the Ring Road at 9 am. Transport Minister Mathew T.Thomas will inaugurate the district-level inauguration at a function at the Gym Palace auditorium. — Staff Reporter

Technical festival begins today

Thrissur: Inspector General of Police Alexander Jacob will inaugurate `Resonance-2006,' a technical festival being organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Thrissur Government Engineering College, here on November 1. Seminars will be held on `Nanodevices' and `Latest trends in VLSI design' as part of the three-day festival. A workshop on `Robotics' and a technical exhibition are also being organised, according to a press release. - Staff Reporter

Heavy rain continues

PATHANAMTHITTA: Heavy rain continued to lash the eastern hill tracts of Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday.

The catchment areas of the Sabarigiri hydroelectric project in the forests received heavy rain in the past 24 hours, leading to increase in inflow into the reservoirs of Kakki, Anathode and Kochu Pampa, according to the Kerala State Electricity Board sources. The water level in the Kakki-Anathode twin reservoirs was 978.12 metres on Tuesday morning. KSEB sources at Moozhiyar said reservoirs of the Sabarigiri project held water to generate not less than 642 million units of power.
